Publishing an artifact makes it readable by anyone

No account, no invitation, no check on who opens the link. If yours carries client data, credentials, personal records, or unreleased work, take it down before you do anything else. Three settings close it, depending on how much you want switched off.

Claude moves its menus around, so a label may sit one click from where it says here.

Anyone

Unpublish one artifact

Cuts a public link you already shared. Takes effect immediately.

  1. 01Sign in at claude.ai.
  2. 02Open Artifacts in the left sidebar.
  3. 03Select the Your artifacts tab.
  4. 04Open the artifact marked Published.
  5. 05Click Published or Share at the top right.
  6. 06Choose Unpublish, or switch the artifact to Private.
  7. 07The public link stops working right away.

Team and Enterprise admins

Turn off public artifacts for an organization

Stops every member from publishing, and makes existing public artifacts private.

  1. 01Click your profile name at the bottom left.
  2. 02Go to Organization settings, then Capabilities.
  3. 03Find Public projects or Public artifacts.
  4. 04Switch the toggle off. Every public artifact in the organization becomes private.

Anyone

Turn off Artifacts entirely

For when the artifacts panel keeps opening on the right while you chat.

  1. 01Click your profile picture at the bottom left of the sidebar.
  2. 02Open Settings.
  3. 03Go to the Capabilities tab.
  4. 04Find Artifacts, listed as AI-powered artifacts in some accounts.
  5. 05Switch the toggle off.

Once it is private

The claude.ai link stops resolving straight away. A record may sit in this index until the next crawl, and search engines keep their own caches on their own schedule. Removing the artifact is the part you control; the copies other people already made are not.
